Mettowee River Fishing Report July 1, 2025

Fishing report by Maxx Juckett

The heat this week put a damper on the recent action. The trout fishing slowed down this week as river temps climbed to 70°F. The cooler weather that came through mid week helped cool the river down to fishable temperatures. The river is currently at 63° and the gage in Middle Granville is measuring 3.9 feet with a flow of 97 cfs. This makes for perfect river conditions for any fishermen.

That being said, there are many people fishing the river and the fish are highly pressured. They’ve become very selective and sometimes you really have to work for a fish. Be sure to change up your presentation regularly for the best results.

There were some insects around including mayflies (size12-18) and caddis (size 14-16).some effective patterns this week include Waltz Worm (size16), Red Midge (size14) and a Mop Fly (size10). Covering water is key, but a couple good places to start are the rapids in Middle Granville and the Church Street bridge.
